Recognition for Healthy Minds Trailblazer
Thu 10th October 2019
South Tyneside CCG is working in partnership with South Tyneside Council to blaze a trail for children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing, and to coincide with World Mental Health Day on 10 October, Tyne Tees TV visited Jarrow Cross Primary School to learn about the successful programme.
We know that mental ill-health can have significant and long-lasting impact on children’s education, relationships and ultimately, their future prospects. Following a successful partnership bid to NHS England to improve children’s mental health provision, South Tyneside is now a trailblazer site and has introduced Mental Health Support Teams in some schools. Award of phase two funding means that all schools in South Tyneside will now be able to benefit from support from the Healthy Minds Team.
The Healthy Minds Teams have reinforced the existing offer; complimenting services and existing support structures to offer earlier intervention and focus on prevention. The Healthy Minds Teams offer work in schools to support children and young people who are experiencing, or who are at risk of developing emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties or who require support in relation to resilience building. In addition, school staff and parents have access to training and advice and those students who require a higher level of support have access to 1:1 and group work within schools.0
